T

Temporal                    Relating to time

Third Position              Relating to a Perceptual Positions. Third Position, or Meta Position, is the point of view of a dissociated observer, an over view.

Through Time             Through Time people will store their memories left to right or right to left or in any other way so that all time is in front of them and they are not in it. As such they are able to structure the way they experience time and generally are able to plan and work with time in a stuctured way. Time is a continuous and uninterrupted.

Time Code                  Time codes are about the way we organise our memories into the Past, Present, Future and even Atemporal or outside of time.

Time Line                    A way in which we store our memories of the past, the present and the future making each person's time line metaphorically unique to them.

Trace Anchor               See Search Anchor.

Trance                        Any altered state. In hypnosis it is usually characterised by inward, one-pointed focus.

Transderivational Search: Transderivational search (often abbreviated to TDS) is a psychological and cybernetics term. a transderivational search is a search for a possible meaning or possible match as part of communication, and without which an incoming communication cannot be made any sense of whatsoever. It is thus an integral part of processing language, and of attaching meaning to communication.

A psychological example of TDS is in The Milton Model and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, where vague suggestions are used that the patient must process intensely to find their own meanings for, thus ensuring that the practitioner does not intrude his own beliefs into the subject's inner world

The process of going inside to recover information from it's source. A transderivational search will often be an Unconscious process. Part of Eye Accessing Cues. Looking through several or all of the Representational Systems for the same piece of information.

Transformation            A series of Derivations which connect the Deep Structure to the Surface Structure.

Trigger                        An Anchor. A stimulus that produces a specific response in a given situation, and is the external event or internal belief that starts a behaviour or response.

U

Unconscious                The neurological processing that takes place outside of our awareness.

Unconscious Mind        The unconscious mind is a Nominalisation as it creates the notion of an unconscious mind, whereas it's origin is in the way we process most of what we do automatically and unconsciously or outside of our awareness.

Universal                     When a tern is used to create a class of experience or objects that it is all inclusive or exclusive and is not specific to specific person, time, place, action or thing and creates an experience that is so well known that it is assumed.

Universal Quantifiers    Words that are universal generalisations and have no referential index. Includes words such as "all", "every", and "never".

Uptime                       Focussed on the external world through our senses, leaving no attention available for inward attention.

Utilisation                    Utilisation is the process of using whatever enters a persons sensory experience. It is used in pacing someone's reality by simply describing their ongoing sensory experience of what they must be feeling, hearing, or seeing.

V

Values                         A value is about the level of importance that something will have at any moment in time. Vakues are analogue in nature in as far as the relative importance of something will change according to the situation that you will find yourself in. Values are powerful drivers that affect our emotional state and power our motivation.

They will also determine the choices we make according to the specific values that are inherent at that time (Criteria) which along with our beliefs determine how we respond in different situations and are a powerful part of the process of strategy formation.

Core values are values around which we have built a belief structure. eg Family is the most important thing to me, then work etc.

In NLP specific values are sometimes called Criteria.

Visual (V)                    The Representational System dealing with the sense of sight. It can be internal or external

Visual Squash              An NLP technique which allows us to integrate parts at the unconscious level by assisting each one to traverse logical levels (by chunking' up) and to go beyond the boundaries of each to find a higher level of wholeness. Now called Parts Integration.
